In response to requests for a less sensitive test to detect tetracycline residues in raw commingled cow milk and IDEXX’s dedication to the dairy industry, we have developed an improved version of our current SNAP® Tetracycline test. This new test kit is designed to detect tetracycline residues in raw, commingled cow milk at or below 50 ppb, chlortetracycline at or below 100 ppb and oxytetracycline at or below 50 ppb.

How are tetracyclines used?

Tetracyclines are considered one of the most commonly used drugs to treat diseases such as mastitis, infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (pink eye), foot rot, diphtheria, bacterial scours (enteritis), wooden tongue, bacterial pneumonia, wound infections and acute metritis and pasteurellosis.1 Using tetracyclines as a treatment is effective against disease-causing organisms that cause these types of conditions. These ailments can spread quickly and easily between animals so it is crucial to treat upon recognition of a problem before an entire herd becomes infected.
